  • Brazil has authorized the sale of a THC-free oral CBD product.
  • The new product is said to contain 200 milligrams of CBD per milliliter.
  • The CBD product should be available in pharmacies around mid-May.

Brazilian health authorities have recently approved an oral CBD product that is said to be THC-free.

The oral CBD product is owned by the Brazilian pharmaceutical giant Prati-Donaduzzi. It marks the first-ever medical cannabis product to be approved for consumer sales in Brazil since the creation of their rules in December of last year.

Prati-Donaduzzi, who is based out of Paraná, has promised to have the product available for purchase in pharmacies by the middle of May.

Because Brazil does not allow for hemp or marijuana cultivation, Prati must import raw CBD extract before they can manufacture the product. The use of synthetic active ingredients is also banned in Brazil according to the regulations set in place.

This new Brazilian oral CBD product will be sold in pharmacies but regulated differently than other prescription drugs.

Brazil previously only allowed for Sativex to be prescribed to individuals suffering from multiple sclerosis. Sativex is another prescription drug that is derived from marijuana.

The new oral CBD product contains 200 milligrams of CBD per milliliter. It marks a huge milestone for the cannabis industry in the largest economy of Latin America.

Wrap Up

This was an important step for the cannabis industry in Brazil because it is the beginning of what seems to be national acceptance for the plant. And due to the fact that Brazil does not allow domestic cultivation of hemp or marijuana, there is potential for Brazil to have a massive import market for the medicinal plants.
