  • The state of Florida received approval for its 2020 hemp production plan.
  • The approval comes two weeks before the state had originally planned to begin accepting applications.
  • The application process for growing hemp in Florida will begin on April 27th.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) approved Florida’s hemp production plan this week, adding them to a growing list of states that have received federal approval. This federal sign off comes two weeks before the state planned to begin accepting applications for 2020’s first commercial hemp season.

Under Florida’s hemp plan, all hemp plants must be tested for their total THC content in a lab that is registered with U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). They also outlined their hemp transportation rules. They exclude USDA clearance but mandate that hemp shippers stop at a state agriculture inspection station and provide:

  • A bill of sale including place of origin.
  • A certificate on the product’s total THC content.
  • A phytosanitary certificate for live plant material.

The application process in Florida will begin on April 27th.

Along with the approval of Florida’s hemp plan this week, the USDA also approved the hemp production rules from the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians from North Dakota.

Ohio, Texas, Montana, and Louisiana are a few other states who have received approval for their 2020 hemp production plan and have already begun to collect applications.
