Myth or Fact: The CBD Edition

Hello and welcome to my first (and possibly only) edition of, Myth or Fact: The CBD Edition!

I have been around the CBD industry long enough now to talk to seasoned CBD users and plenty of beginners to the scene.

It’s still relatively new all things considered, so there is no surprise that there are plenty of misconceptions and questions that people have about CBD and its uses.

That’s why I put this little blog together, to mainly help beginners or those that might have questions about CBD and whether or not it’s right for them to use.

Each one of these statements listed below is either a myth or a fact about CBD. I list right away which one it is, and then go into a little more detail about each statement as well. Most of these topics we also have already written about here at TheCBDGuru.org, so you might be able to find a helpful article as well!

With all that info out of the way, let’s dive right in!

CBD Gets You High

Myth Icon

This is one of the biggest myths in the entire CBD industry. Truth be told, you most likely already know this isn’t true if you have heard about CBD at all. It’s usually one of the first things you learn about when someone talks about it.

There is no denying that CBD does not get you high, because of the chemical compounds and how it’s derived from the marijuana plant, it contains no THC, which is the element that gets you high.

If you are unsure of what CBD is, I suggest starting here at our What is CBD section.

CBD Shows Up on a Drug Test

That’s not a typo, there is just an element of truth in both bases. Let me explain.

There are different types of CBD oils that you can use:

  • Broad-spectrum
  • CBD isolates

If you use a CBD product that contains Full-spectrum CBD, then there is the change that the product may contain up to, but no more than 0.3% THC per regulation standards.

Here you can learn more about CBD isolates, broad-spectrum and full-spectrum.

Well, are you looking to improve your health and wellness, sleep, and numerous other health benefits? Then, you need to be willing to spend a bit of money! Sure, to some a $60 CBD tincture can be a lot of money. However, you don’t need to buy an expensive CBD tincture to get started with CBD. There are plenty of cheap CBD options to get started.

You can take:

  • CBD Gummies
  • CBD Edibles
  • CBD Oil
  • CBD Drinks
  • Etc.

So, just be sure to keep that in mind before you think that CBD doesn’t have a good taste to it!

It’s Dangerous to Use CBD While Pregnant

Fact Icon

While there has not been a concrete study to back this evidence, the FDA has been collecting data that shows the potentially harmful side effects that are associated with using CBD while pregnant or breastfeeding.

The reason for this comes from the micro-doses of THC that can be found in full-spectrum CBD.
While small, and can’t damage a fully developed adult, it can be harmful to a fetus.

CBD Works Instantly

Fact and Myth Icon

Okay, I’m not trying to confuse you here, but CBD can work instantly, and also not work instantly. Also, some people have different definitions for the term “instant”.

This all depends on what your expectations for CBD are. If you take CBD for the first time, there is a chance that you can feel something somewhat instantly. CBD can be absorbed into the bloodstream as fast as 20 minutes and up to 2 hours depending on how you took the CBD.

Also, for how fast and strong it works, will depend greatly on the quality of CBD that you buy. For a trustworthy CBD that will work very well, we recommend checking out Charlotte’s Web.

You Shouldn’t Take CBD if You’re an Athlete

Myth Icon

There is absolutely no reason that you can’t use CBD if you’re an athlete.

Even if your not an athlete and just an overly active person, CBD can still be beneficial to you. Here are just a few of the things CBD can help with:

  • Muscle recovery
  • Improved sleep
  • Improved mental health

One of my good friends Jayden Pire actually wrote a blog post a little while back about how CBD is beneficial to athletes. If you want to learn more, I would recommend reading that blog, he’s much more eloquent than I am on the subject!

You Can Overdose on CBD

Myth Icon

It’s extremely doubtful that a human could take enough CBD to cause an overdose. If you take a few extra doses of CBD, you could get a few side effects such as:

  • Excessive drowsiness
  • Stomach pains
  • Diarrhea
  • Vomiting

And that’s really the worst of it, you really don’t need to fear an overdose. As with anything, there are many different factors such as weight, age, gender etc. that you need to take into consideration.

Just don’t take too much CBD in one sitting, but if you accidentally take a few extra drops or eat a few extra gummies, you’re not in immediate danger.
